NR 250 Limnology
Ecology of freshwater ecosystems including their origin, physics, chemistry, and biology, and sensitivity to anthropogenic perturbations. This course provides an introduction to limnological theory and concepts in the classroom and through hands on, inquiry based activities in the field and lab.
Ecology of Algal Blooms
This two week field course at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory investigates ecological and physiological mechanisms that promote harmful algal blooms (HABs) in aquatic ecosystems, with emphasis on Cyanobacteria. The course covers current primary literature on HABs, applied field sampling techniques, species-level identification of common bloom-forming taxa, and physiological characterization of blooms.
